Our history

2003 was ELODS' 50th anniversary. Founded in 1953, initially performing Gilbert & Sullivan operettas the company expanded it's repertoire over the years and has performed all of the major musical shows; some many times.

ELODS stands for Enfield Light Operatic and Dramatic Society, though these days we tend to just call ourselves ELODS!

Our theatre

After many happy years at Millfield theatre, we decided to transfer to a new theatre.

The Wyllyotts Centre is a well established theatre for amateur shows with an enthusiastic audience. It has many excellent facilities for audiences, including newly upgraded seating and a friendly bar and café.

Wyllyotts is easy to get to with many transport links and has ample parking. Please find more information about Wyllyotts theatre including detailed directions by train and car at

Other gigs

We sometimes perform concerts for fundraising and charity. We recently performed a selection of show numbers and songs and raised some funds for the company as well as a worthy charitable cause.

In previous years we have performed in fundraising efforts for childrens hospices.

We have a large repertoire of numbers from all the well known shows and we are available for cabaret or concert performances for social or fund raising events at your club or society.

The music man

Our resident Musical Director (M.D.) is Mark Newport who is doing his umpteenth show for ELODS.

His day job includes work on current west end productions Les Miserables, Bombay Dreams and The King and I. Previous credits include Phantom and Cats. He has MD'd at Sadler's Wells and conducted for Opera East on six national tours.

High Society 2006

All sorts of records were broken with our performance of High Society. The audience figures were at a record high with very few seats remaining unsold. This shows the popularity of the show but also the popularity of the group who are fast gaining a reputation for excellent entertainment among the discerning theatre goers of Potters Bar. Superb lead performances supported by a buoyant chorus line in full voice and tightly choreographed synchronicity dragged every ounce of entertainment value from this well loved show. Audience comments afterwards were unanimous in their praise for the company and the constructive comments from the audience survey will be actioned to ensure future shows deliver even better value to the customer.

Cabaret 2004

Our Spring 2004 show, Cabaret, was widely praised for it's innovative approach and strong performances by the lead characters. The producer introduced a few novel ideas into the production, some of which worked and overall the essence of this dark show was transmitted to the audience sparking some debate.
